Our Favorite Holiday

  • April 10th, 2012

Here at Republic Tequila we’ve always considered Texas Independence Day as a company holiday – it’s certainly our favorite day of the year – and we loved getting so spend it in some of the most iconic locations around the state this year.

Watch our recap Video here!

On our Where in the Republic Tour earlier this month, we met some great friends who share our appreciation for the significance of March 2, and we’ve shared their Texas Tales below.

As our friend Jay B says about Texas Independence Day, “you’d have this much state pride too if your state was once a country.”

Cheers to the Lone Star State! Here are a few stories shared with us on March 2nd.

The reason I know when it’s Texas Independence Day is because of a song by Chris Wall – Texas musician. He talked about sitting on the front porch on the 2nd of March with my shirt all starched. I saw him at the Broken Spoke and it was Texas Independence Day.

- Shane, Dallas

I met my wife at a Texas Independence open mixer party at UT in 1985.

- James, Fredericksburg

We met in Garland and were married in Arkansas. We’re came to Fredericksburg to celebrate our wedding anniversary, which is March 6. But we got March 2nd off because we’re government employees and it’s Texas Independence Day!

- Jay and Jan, San Angelo

I’m proud to report on today, March 2, 2012, I spotted my first buzzard of the season from my front yard in Marfa, TX. To those of you who don’t know, in West Texas this is a sure sign that spring is just around the corner. Couldn’t make for a nice all around Friday.

- Mercer, Marfa

I was born on March 2, Texas Independence Day! Yee haw!

- Tex, Marfa

Texas, Our Texas

  • March 6th, 2012

Republic Tequila had a great time traveling across the miles and miles of Texas on Friday as we celebrated Texas Independence Day with our Where in the Republic Tour. Thank you to everyone who joined us around the Lone Star State and raised a glass of Republic Tequila to our Texas heritage!

We’ve posted a few of our photos from each of our destinations on Facebook and we’ll be posting more over the next few days. Be sure to check out the photos and tag yourself in our album, and if you took any photos on Friday, post them on our Facebook wall!

Also keep an eye out as we share your Texas Tales – over the coming weeks, we’ll be featuring the comments and stories you’ve shared about why you love Texas and what makes our state so unique and wonderful. If you haven’t shared your tale yet, you can still do so on our Facebook page or Twitter using the hashtag #TXtales.

For anyone in the Austin area who may have missed us on Friday, it’s not too late to celebrate – join us tomorrow, Wednesday, March 7, at Jack Allen’s Kitchen from 5-10 p.m. for the Republic of Jack patio party. We’ll be there serving some delicious Republic Tequila cocktails to go along with Jack’s whole pig roast.

And don’t forget, it doesn’t have to be a holiday to enjoy Republic Tequila – as Tom says, “Life is hard enough. Drinking shouldn’t be.”

What to look for in a bar

  • February 13th, 2012

In this time of dos (do exercise, do drink coal slag spring water) and don’ts (don’t eat pig parts, don’t diss your boss on Facebook) there is one place you can go where the philosophy of the day is always “what do you want to do” and that is your local bar. Not just any bar but a bar where nobody is texting and where people are genuinely talking to each other. A bar that puts the happy in happy hour.

I evaluate a bar on 10 things in this order.

-Fast service. Forget rusty signs and girls dressed like Daisy Duke. If you have to wait 10 minutes for a drink that is 9 minutes too long.

-Friendly service. A smile and friendly greeting (maybe a “how you doing shuga”) go a long way in setting the mood for the evening. I worked at a four star restaurant during college and they taught me to be purposely rude and arrogant and I have to say people really ate it up. However, I am not typically a tourist paying $50 for weird fish with a cream sauce on it so I fall for friendly every time.

-Quality drinks. Decent liquors in the well that won’t make you blind and a good selection of premium liquors like Republic Tequila to choose from.

-Atmosphere. Music not so loud I can’t talk to my neighbor. No blaring TV’s with the Bulgaria versus Moldavia soccer match (score still 0 to 0 after 3 hours)

-Variety of seating. My wife won’t sit on a bar stool. I won’t sit on a couch with a table 3 feet away. A mixture of booths and tables is nice.

-Friendly fellow patrons. No loud drunks (voted most likely to spill a beer down your back) and no prissy types sipping white wine.

-Something unique. My favorites include a bar with a patron maintained library. Take or leave a book, nobody counts. Another favorite, a bar where you cook a mini steak on a hot rock.

-Clean. Maybe I’m showing my age but sticking my button down shirt sleeve in a puddle of beer or sitting on ketchup doesn’t thrill like it did in school.

-Enough bathrooms. All the fluid coming from the bar has to go somewhere. Further comment not required.

-Salty snack treats. Popcorn and peanuts are a nice treat.

Please ignore any unintentional insults to Bulgarian soccer fans and white wine fans and join me with a Republic Tequila in a bar near you.

4th of July Planning

  • June 29th, 2011

This blog post comes from the new Republic Tequila intern, Brittney. Brittney has a tips on planning for a successeful Holiday weekend, so read up!

Stars & Stripes

The 4th of July stands for all of the things we love about our country: barbeque, grilling, watermelon, cold beer, margaritas, shooting off fireworks, and having a day off work to spend time with family and friends. Whether you spend the holiday at home, on vacation, with relatives, with no relatives, with friends, or completely by yourself there are definitely a few things everyone should prepare for in order to successfully celebrate our great nation.

1. Traffic.

Getting to your favorite firework viewing spot is pretty much always a hassle. Plan on leaving early, don’t forget your blankets and chairs, and park yourself in a prime location to watch the sky explode with colors.

2. Bugs

If you’re not outside on the 4th of July then you aren’t celebrating properly. Don’t ruin your day itching and let the mosquitoes get the best of you, always be prepared with bug spray when you plan on heading outdoors.

3. Food & Drinks

You can’t overbuy. The worst party is the party that runs out of food. Go to the closest grocery store and/or liquor store to stock up in bulk on your favorite buns, dogs, drinks, and Republic Tequila Spirit Blends to ensure a successful (and full) holiday. Need cocktail recipe ideas? Check out our Kitchen Cocktails page

4. Fireworks

There are numerous places to watch them and they’re always one of the best parts of the day. Wish you could create your own show? This year, you can. The new Swakker Fireworks App lets you create a show along with a personal message so you can test your skills and impress your friends.

No matter how you celebrate, or who you celebrate with, 4th of July is always the time to remember how much you love your country and be thankful to the troops who serve it. Have fun, be safe, drink responsibly, and remember not to be sad the holiday is over because there’s always another one next year!

Happy 4th of July!
